Reports To: Child Advocate in collaboration with the Women’s Counsellor
Time Commitment: Tuesday Evenings from 5:00 to 7:00 pm plus occasional as-needed times for Special Outings/Events
SUMMARY: The Children’s Recreational Group helps the children to develop social skills and alternatives to violence while having fun. The Children’s Recreation Worker will assist with the provision of recreation for the children residing in the residence and activities may be held outside as weather permits. Ages of children may range from infancy to pre-adolescents.
DUTIES:
1. Providing assistance to the Child Advocate in the delivery of children’s group. This may include but is not limited to: playing games, reading books, group games and activities, helping with crafts, interacting with infants, toddlers and school-aged children.
2. Assisting with set-up and clean-up
3. Assisting with snack time
4. Maintaining confidentiality
QUALIFICATIONS:
1. Good communication/interpersonal skills
2. Enjoy working with children and as a part of a team
3. Some flexibility in work hours may be required
4. Previous experience working with children. Completion of Babysitter’s Course would be an asset but not a necessity
5. Basic understanding of the issues of domestic violence and the effects on children
6. Responsible, reliable and punctual
7. Adherence to strict confidentiality of all clients, staff and organization information
TRAINING, ORIENTATION & SUPPORT:
1. Attend a general orientation
2. On-the-job training by the Child Advocate
