Working at Second Stage Housing
Throughout my time at Second Stage Housing in the contract position for Women's Counsellor, I've been honoured to have the opportunity to enter into the lives of women and children to offer support and safety at a time when they are feeling vulnerable, weak, scared and confused.
What stands out the most about the agency and the services it provides is the dedication of each individual team member and solidarity as a whole to work together to meet the needs of women and children, watch them grow, help them to regain a sense of autonomy and eventually a life free from abuse.
The program not only offers weekly group and individual counselling but the staff team fosters a sense of community and provides women and families the opportunity to be just that; a family. A family to celebrate special occasions and holidays, go on trips co-ordinated by the staff and, go about daily life routines in a relaxed, supportive and secure environment so they can make a positive change.
